Waxing Q & A

How long do I need to wait to get waxed?

Recommended time after last hair removal technique (waxing and/or shaving) is at least 4 weeks to ensure hair can be gripped by the wax. Everyone has different hair growth intervals so alternatively the hair should be a grain of rice length or ¼ inch. Waxing too soon can result in hair seemingly growing back faster because it was not extracted at the time of appointment. It can also cause ingrown hairs, discomfort, irritation, etc.

What is recommended before a wax appointment?

Area should be clean and dry for your wax appointment. Avoid heavy creams and moisturizers the day of.  Wait the recommended amount of time before getting a wax to receive best results. Exfoliation in preparation for your wax should be done consistently in between waxes. This helps remove dead skin cells so wax can get as close to the skin and have better grip on the hairs. It also prevents hairs getting trapped underneath the skin as they grow back in. Refrain from using products with acids, retinols, and exfoliating properties at least one week before your wax to avoid sensitivity after and during your wax appointment.

What is recommended after a wax appointment?

The best thing to do after a wax appointment is to take it easy. Skin is very sensitive at this point and should be kept out of the sun. No tanning. Avoid tight, restrictive clothing on any waxed areas as the skin is prone to irritation from friction. No hot showers or baths including saunas, hot tubs, or steam baths. Heavy exercise, excessive sweating, and swimming are not recommended. No skin treatments up to 48 hours after. Refrain from touching, scratching, or itching waxed areas. No shaving in between appointments.

Who is allowed to wax?

Everyone should be able to enjoy the benefits of waxing. To do so safely a couple of factors must be considered for a more comfortable experience. Underage clients must be accompanied with a guardian or have a waiver signed prior to the appointment. Anyone using Accutane, retinols, or any skin thinning acne products are encouraged to wait until treatments are concluded. Any person exposed to heavy amounts of sun or tanning beds in areas to be waxed are advised to wait until skin is not compromised. Consult your doctor before waxing if you are on any type of medication to see if waxing is appropriate for your skin at time of usage.
